Department of Psychiatry

Department of Psychiatry, J.J.M. Medical College was started in Dec 1978 by Dr K. Nagaraja Rao. Postgraduate Diploma (DPM) training program was started in 1986 and Postgraduate Degree (MD) training program was started in 1999. Both have been recognized by the Medical Council of India. Current intake is 4 MD students per year. Till now about 55 post graduates have been trained & qualified. At present there are three Professors of Psychiatry, one Senior Resident and one Professor of Clinical Psychology. The Department focuses on comprehensive Patient care, Under graduate, Post Graduate teaching and research.

  • Dr Karan Dhawan, got best research paper award in State Level Conference – KANCIPS-2017 at Hospet, under the guidance of Dr C.Y Sudarshan. Title – Executive functions in Major Depressive Disorder.
  • Dr Vinyas Nisarga, got best poster award in State Level Conference – KANCIPS-2017 at Hospet under the guidance of Dr M. Anupama. Title – Comparative efficacy of GHQ-12 and Edinburgh postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) for screening depression in pregnancy.
  • Miss Sonika S.S UG student from JJM medical collegesecured 1st Rank in the state level UG prize examination-2017 in Psychiatry conducted by Indian Psychiatric Society, Karnataka Chapter.
  • Dr Karan Dhawan secured First Rank in MD exams held on 2018 by RGUHS.
  • Dr Vanishree, got best paper award in State Level Conference – KANCIPS-2018 at Dharwad under the guidance of Dr C.Y Sudarshan Title – Psychological well being & job satisfaction in school teachers.
